This record and publication contain a unique recording—conceived in conjunction with Burchfield Penney Art Center's exhibition Charles E. Burchfield: A Resounding Roar.
It is a realization of the goal to create musical compositions in Burchfield's name. Graphic notation and many other compositional approaches were used to interpret paintings, drawings and doodle by the artist by a diverse group of performers. Governed in part by chance and in part by the artist's images and words, A Resouding Roar is an embodiment of Burchfield's inspiration "What undiscovered music there is in our world."
Production details conceptually illustrate the intention of the project — like the printing of a notation on vellum that is laid over the Burchfield work that inspired the notes.
